Instability repair

When we treat an instability we repair or reconstruct a torn ligament. A combination between suturing the remains of a ligament and a fortification using a local tendon (ligament plasty) may also be applied. The aim of the procedure is to restore stability to the injured articulation.

Where can a ligament-plasty be applied?

We use different techniques on shoulder, knee and ankle joints. Usually a tendon close to the torn ligament can be used to fortify or replace the injured structure. Re-education after surgery through detailed and individual therapy using splints and physiotherapy is often necessary.
